It's completely normal to feel a little nervous before your first session, in fact, most people do. You don't need to prepare anything or have a perfect way to explain what’s going on; your psychologist will gently guide the conversation at a pace that feels safe and comfortable for you. The first session includes reviewing any administrative matters, going through confidentiality and consent, as well as learning about your story. Ultimately, it is really about getting to know you, understanding what brings you here, and exploring how therapy might support your needs. Just your willingness to show up is more than enough to begin.

Standard individual therapy sessions are approximately 50 minutes in length, providing a focused and supportive space tailored to your needs.
Couples therapy typically begins with 120-minute sessions, allowing space for a thorough understanding of your relationship dynamics. As you build skills and confidence, sessions may be reduced to 90 or 50 minutes to support ongoing growth and connection.

No, you don’t need a referral to see a psychologist privately. However, if you’d like to access Medicare rebates, you’ll need a referral and a Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP) from your GP. A MHTP is a document your doctor prepares that outlines your mental health needs and goals for therapy. It allows you to claim a Medicare rebate for up to 10 sessions per calendar year with a registered psychologist. You're welcome to book an appointment with or without a referral, depending on what suits you best.

Session fees vary depending on the type and length of the appointment. Please contact us directly for our current fee schedule. If you have a Mental Health Treatment Plan, you may be eligible for a Medicare rebate.
From 1st July 2025, the Medicare rebate for sessions with a Clinical Psychologist under a Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP) is $145.25 per standard 50-minute individual session.
Clients are eligible for up to 10 rebated sessions per calendar year, as referred by their GP, psychiatrist, or paediatrician under the Better Access initiative.
Couples therapy is not eligible for Medicare rebates, as it is not covered under a Mental Health Treatment Plan.
